The partnership will span both the Pride in London parade and festivities on 2 July and the Proud and Loud event at The Royal Albert Hall on 4 June
Both events will raise much-needed funds for Pride in London’s Unity Fund. The Independent will also be marking Pride month with initiatives throughout June in both the UK and US.
This year’s Pride in London focuses on making powerful statements on the march toward progress, focusing on areas including a national AIDS memorial, protection against hate crimes and banning conversion therapy for all.
The Independent will take an active role in highlighting these issues and their impact on the LGBT+ community through dedicated editorial content. This will build on The Independent’s long history of campaigning with and championing the LGBT+ community, including The Rainbow List, The Pink List and its Equal Partners campaign, which lobbied for equal marriage.
The partnership will also see The Independent provide Pride in London with extensive advertising inventory, meaning that Pride in London can amplify its messages with a readership of people who are focused on realising positive change. Meanwhile, The Independent team will be marching in the parade to celebrate LGBT+ people and show their commitment to the continued fight against injustice and inequality.
Pride in London takes place on 2 July 2022, with events taking place across the city, centred on the parade. More information is available here.
Christian Broughton, managing director of The Independent said: “The Independent has a long, proud history of campaigning on issues that are important to members of the LGBT+ community, such as Equal Partners, while the long-running Rainbow List has celebrated and championed all kinds of achievements.
“We are honoured to be working with Pride in London to support, educate and inspire, and to keep fighting for ever greater equality. The Independent is dedicated to making change happen and by working with Pride, we’re thrilled to be able to keep doing so.”
Asad Shaykh, director of MarComms for Pride in London added: “We are delighted to be partnering with The Independent, a publication known for its long history of campaigning and driving meaningful change for LGBT+ people.
“We have tremendous respect for everything they’ve done over the years, and it’s great to be able to partner with them, to help celebrate the LGBT+ community and amplify our voices, together.”
