IPA TouchPoints 2020: Readers continue to spend quality time with national news brands during lockdown

New IPA TouchPoints data shows that readers are spending 1 hour and 40 minutes with their daily newspaper during the pandemic.

According to the latest IPA TouchPoints data, readers are spending 24% longer reading print news brands during lockdown.

The data shows that, although readers have been unable to go out to buy their newspaper as frequently, they are reading them for significantly longer, an additional 20 minutes.

On average, readers are spending 55 minutes reading news brands via smartphones, with the number increasing to 57 minutes for 18-34s — up 11% during lockdown.

Similarly, readers are spending 54 minutes reading news brands on their desktop/laptop devices and 52 minutes reading via their tablets.

Finally, trust in national news brands has increased by 9% during the global pandemic, reflecting the public’s ongoing demand for high quality journalism.

National news brand readership is at a record high, surpassing 25 million daily digital readers for the first time, with new PAMCo data out next week.
