The phenomenon is created by plankton which produce a chemical called lucifern when disturbed during warn weather. Photographer Gareth Mon-Jones, 41, spoke in glowing terms about the magic moments he snapped at Penmon Point Beach, Anglesey. He said: “It’s unreal – it doesn’t quite register to the brain. It is pitch black then the water splashes and it just lights up like a little hand grenade going off in the waves.”
