Paul Dacre to lift lid on his time at the Daily Mail in documentary

From Diana to Blair, the editor is set to reveal all on his 26 years shaping the paper to become the “voice of Middle England”.

Channel 4 has commissioned a landmark 3-part series whereby Dacre – arguably one of the most influential and controversial newspaper editor of recent times – will open up about his time shaping the Daily Mail and leading it through major events such as Princess Diana’s death and the championing of Brexit.

The headlines published during his tenure helped shape modern Britain while establishing the newspaper as the “voice of Middle England”. During an unprecedented time of rapid political, moral and social change, Dacre often positioned himself as the voice of outrage and despite generally keeping himself out of the limelight he plans to open up for the first time about what it was really like.

Channel 4’s head of factual Danny Horan said: “The question of whether Paul Dacre and the Daily Mail have set or reflected the mood of the nation over the last quarter of a century is asked all too often.

“For the first time, we will ask Paul Dacre himself. This will be an iconic history series that will reveal how our most revered and reviled newspaper shaped Britain. Everything we thought we knew is about to be turned on its head.”

The documentary is series is set to air at the start of 2021.
