- The Newsworks Awards to feature new categories including most creative ad, best sustainable campaign & rising agency star
- Boots VP marketing director Helen Jeremiah to chair the inaugural Newsworks Awards
Newsworks has reinvigorated its annual awards to celebrate the dynamic nature of news brand advertising across all platforms, with a new focus on creativity and purpose-led campaigns, as well as recognising individuals and advertisers.
Relaunched as The Newsworks Awards, the new awards feature a total of 10 categories to enter including effectiveness, content partnerships and tactical ads with updated criteria across all areas.
Further new categories include best social impact campaign, advertiser of the year and rising agency star of the year. There will also be a Grand Prix, chosen by the judges.
Helen Jeremiah, VP marketing director at Boots, will be the first chair of judges for the new awards.
Entries open on 6 September, with an awards party taking place on 1 December at the prestigious NoMad Hotel in Covent Garden.
Jo Allan, CEO of Newsworks, said: “We have reimagined our awards to better reflect and celebrate the dynamic nature of the advertising in news brands. We have consciously broadened the categories to better honour the creativity, partnerships and the conscience-led campaigns that we are seeing as well as recognising young agency talent and individual brands who champion our industry.
“I am also delighted and honoured that Helen has agreed to be the chair of our judges, in what is set to be a really brilliant year of entries across all the categories.”
Helen Jeremiah, VP marketing director at Boots, said: “I am delighted to being chairing the 2022 Newsworks Awards. I am really looking forward to being inspired by the most creative, tactical and socially focused campaigns that have appeared in news brands over the last 18 months.
“News brands have a long and trusted history of campaigning for change on behalf of their readers, and in these challenging times that makes them the perfect platform for running impactful, purpose-driven advertising campaigns, so I am especially keen to see the quality and depth of work that has been going on in this area.”

7. Best social impact campaign NEW
This category is for purpose-led campaigns with a conscience, which support an important cause and inspire or provoke change. It could be tackling a taboo subject or pushing boundaries, telling unheard stories, championing diversity, inclusion and equality, and campaigning for a better society. Tell us how you’re changing the world.
8. Best sustainable campaign NEW
This award will recognise best in class when it comes to sustainability credentials, whether it is a campaign which aims to positively change consumer behaviour for a greener future or a planning approach that is mindful of its carbon output and can demonstrate progress in this area (or both, of course!).
9. Rising agency star of the year NEW
Now’s the time to nominate your best young talent, someone who has made a real difference to their agency and their clients, who champions news brands and has made an outstanding contribution to news brand planning.
10. Advertiser of the year NEW
New for 2022, this category will hero the advertiser of the year: a brand that has used news brands consistently to deliver on their overall communications strategy and drive effective long-term objectives.
Grand Prix – Campaign of the year*
This is the big one! Whether cleverly using publishers’ ever-increasing portfolios of trusted content, or an amazingly brilliant campaign that pushes boundaries, this award will celebrate the very best of the best in news brand advertising (*chosen by the judges).
