comScore research into the relationship between smartphone owners and newsbrands.

The latest comScore MobiLens data shows that the number of mobile phone owners in the UK remains steady – sitting at just over 50 million and 70% of the owners are using connected media. That is, they use their phones to browse mobile internet, use applications, email, stream or download music, or watch broadcast or on-demand video.

This increasingly connected audience means that a growing number of people are able to keep up with news on the go.

According to comScore Mobile Metrix data, an impressive 25.0 million access newsbrands on their smartphones, which accounts for 85% of the total smartphone audience.

Data also suggests that mobile newsbrands are particularly appealing to a young audience.

Key findings                      

  • 50.7 million people now own a mobile phone in the UK
  • 92.2% of smartphone owners aged 18-24 access newsbrands on their mobile
  • 25.0 million visit newsbrand websites on their smartphones

Google Android is the most popular operating system
