i appoints Sophie Lam as new travel editor

Lam will be responsible for enhancing travel coverage in print and online, while driving forward the development of commercial partnerships across i's platforms.

Joining with a wealth of experience, Lam previously worked at ESI Media for 13 years where she oversaw the travel sections of the group's titles – The Independent, The Independent on Sunday, i (now owned by Johnston Press) and the Evening Standard.

The Independent's Traveller Magazine was twice named National Broadsheet Travel Section of the Year and Lam also played an integral role in launching and co-hosting the inaugural Independent Travel Awards. In her new role as travel editor, Lam will directly report to the editor of i and, Oliver Duff.

Duff said: "Travel is a priority area of our coverage for readers, and we know that commercial partners are interested in collaborating on new opportunities. With Sophie's pedigree and contacts in the sector, and her great affinity for i and our readers, she's ideally placed to develop our coverage and partnerships. We're delighted that she's joining our growing editorial team."

Lam added: "Having worked on i previously when it was part of ESI Media, I know what a great opportunity this is. I'm excited to be joining the brilliant i team – working on developing our travel offering, building commercial partnerships and our digital profile."
