News UK & Telegraph win at BSME awards

News UK took home five awards at the British Society of Magazine Editors awards yesterday, while The Telegraph picked up a lifetime achievement award.

'Best Newspaper Magazine Editor' went jointly to The Sun on Sunday's Fabulous magazine editor Sinead McIntyre and, for the second year in a row, Nicola Jeal, editor of The Times Magazine.

Commenting on the win, Jeal said: "I am delighted to win the award for best magazine editor for the second year running – although even better this year as I share the award with the fabulous Sinead of Fabulous.

"And to win in every category we possibly could, from best art director to best columnist, was a tremendous achievement and a reflection on the hard work the Saturday Times Magazine's brilliant staff put in week in, week out."

Melanie Reid from The Times Magazine was named 'Columnist of the Year' in the consumer section for her Spinal Column about her life as a disabled person. Meanwhile, The Times Magazine's art director Chris Hitchcock received the gong in the consumer category for 'Arts Director of the Year'.

Arts editor of The Sunday Times Culture magazine Helen Hawkins was chosen as the 'Music, Arts and Literary' category winner.

The Telegraph were also celebrating a win last night as the publisher's deputy editor and director of lifestyle Jane Bruton took home the 'Mark Boxer Award' for lifetime achievement.
