Reach's Emma Callaghan: "We now reach over 46 million UK adults every month"

On the 5 November the newly formed Reach Plc commercial and editorial teams came together, marking a fairly monumental day for the UK's media landscape, writes Emma Callaghan, Reach Solutions' sales director.

Fortunately there weren't any fireworks. There were, unsurprisingly, a fair few phone calls to IT. But that was always to be expected.

Noise around this acquisition and the merging of two national newsbrands has been going on for quite some time and there is a genuine sense of excitement now that we've arrived as the newly formed sales team, Reach Solutions.

The name choice is simple. Our business is reaching more people, more frequently, more meaningfully. In fact we now reach over 46 million UK adults every month. That's bloody massive. Not that it's a competition or anything.

We all know that scale is something of a hygiene factor these days; it's essential for media businesses, but to drive positive advertising results, you need much more than just numbers.

Our combined portfolio means we now offer a truly diverse portfolio of trusted brands across multiple platforms, both locally and nationally. Over the next few months we're going to be out in market talking about our identity, our influence and our integrity, three things that we believe are key for advertisers.

As the sales team our role will continue to be finding advertising solutions for our customers, whether that's a programmatic performance buy or a year-long content brand-building partnership, we are set up to deliver however our clients want to work with us.   

And we're very privileged to work closely with our esteemed editorial teams, offering brands access to their unique skillset, their understanding of data-driven journalism and their valuable story-telling credentials. 

The office has been absolutely buzzing with noise and energy (and people trying to find their desks). We’re lucky to have a combination of talented people from both previous businesses, all bringing their expertise to the new 255 strong team.  

Next week we're looking forward to welcoming many of our valued customers and clients to Reach Fest, a series of themed events and activations in central London to celebrate our brands and editorial teams. On 14 November Jeremy Corbyn will be our special guest, in discussion with both Mirror and Express journalists.

I asked Lloyd Embley, our group editor-in-chief what he’s most excited about. Aside from the annual Reach staff ski trip, he simply said: "The opportunity. For readers, for users, for advertisers."

We couldn't agree more. It's an exciting time for the newsbrand market.
