PAMCo: 24 million people read a national newsbrand every day

Latest PAMCo data shows that 45% of the population read a newsbrand every day.

PAMCo data for October 2017 to September 2018 marks the fourth release of the industry's audience measurement currency, allowing us to accurately see who is consuming national newsbrand content across all publisher platforms – print, desktop and mobile.

News is constantly changing. From breaking stories to in-depth opinion pieces, different content is continuously published by newsbrands and the data shows that the British public has a strong appetite for it. While 24 million Britons read a newsbrand every day, 40 million (75%) read them weekly and 44 million (84%) read them monthly.

Print remains a popular medium. Of the 24 million daily multi-platform newsbrand readers, over half (12.2 million) are reading a physical newspaper, rising to 27.4 million Brits (52%) every month. Mobile continues to be a popular platform for consuming newsbrands on a daily, weekly and monthly basis, for example six in 10 (61%, 33 million) consume news via a mobile device every month.

News consumption is strong among 18-34 year olds, with 40% (5.7 million) reading newsbrands on a daily basis. For this group, mobile devices are their favoured platform, with over a quarter (27%, 3.8 million) accessing newsbrands in this way daily.
