News UK launches media apprenticeship scheme

The news brand announces a raft of new apprenticeships to encourage greater diversity in the media.

The 28 apprenticeships – across The Times, The Sunday Times, the TLS, The Sun, Wireless and News UK’s commercial teams, and spanning the UK and Ireland – offer two years of employment and training for each successful candidate. 

Recruitment has now opened for the apprenticeships and will close on May 2nd. In total, News UK will offer 45 apprenticeships in 2021. 

Editorial and broadcast apprentices will gain a fully-funded NCTJ Diploma in Journalism and every candidate will receive on-the-job training, mentoring and coaching with experienced and talented staff, and each will be offered a competitive salary.

Commenting on the new scheme, Mark Hudson, head of early talent at News UK said: “We want to create opportunities for people who aspire to work in the media from across every part of society. 

“If you have a passion for learning, an inquisitive and creative mind, this apprenticeship scheme will pay you a competitive salary while you get the hands-on experience, on-the job mentoring and coaching.”

The scheme follows the launch of News UK’s Kickstart programme, which will offer up to 100 6-month editorial traineeships in 2021.

Available apprenticeships include commercial trainee x 5 (London)The Times and The Sunday Times (x11)Times Radio apprenticeship (x3) and The Sun (Ireland).
