dmg media and NewstrAid pledge £165k to news trade charity

The sheltered housing charity is for people who have worked in the distribution of newspapers and magazines in the UK and their families.

Over five years (beginning from 2018) dmg media is donating £75,000 towards the refurbishment of resident’s bungalows in Seaford, East Sussex, providing valuable accommodation for those in need from the news trade.

In 1964 Associated Newspapers (dmg media registered name at the time) provided the build costs for five bungalows at the Seaford estate. The £75,000 donation will pay for a total refurbishment of each of these bungalows.

NewstrAid has donated £90,000 to Old Ben Homes. As the sister charity of Old Ben Homes, NewstrAid provides welfare for people who are, or have been, involved in the retailing, wholesaling, distribution and circulation of newspapers and magazines.

Angela Farrant, Seaford Housing Manager, said: “The residents at Seaford are extremely happy with their newly refurbished properties. Thanks to the generous help from the Daily Mail and NewstrAid, they now have homes for life.” A resident of the ‘dmg media’ bungalow noted: “We would like to thank Old Ben Homes and the Daily Mail for making our dreams come true. Our bungalow is now warmer, lighter and more modern. Plus the kitchen is fantastic – thank you once again from two very happy residents.”

Shaun Jones, Mail newspapers, Head of Circulation, said: “Old Ben Homes is a great charity supporting people who have worked in and served our great industry and dmg media are delighted to continue to support the estate at Seaford.”

Mike Mirams, Chief Executive Officer, NewstrAid, said: “The Trustees of NewstrAid were delighted to help improve the lives of people from our own industry with this one-off contribution to the refurbishment of Seaford bungalows.”
