The Evening Standard appoints James White as new commercial director

He will begin in the role with immediate effect.

In a newly created role, White will be responsible for all revenue lines across the multi-platform news brand, read by over two million adults daily. He will report directly into Mike Soutar, who was appointed Chief Executive in September.

White has played a key role in the success of the business. He joined The Evening Standard in 2006 as agency sales executive and was promoted most recently to chief trading officer. Previous to this, he worked at both The Scotsman and The Independent.

Evening Standard chief executive, Mike Soutar said: “I am delighted to appoint James to this critical role. In a strong field of candidates James was outstanding. He is a respected and popular executive who has enduring relationships with our most important clients and agencies. The fact that he is an internal appointment speaks not just of his qualities as a candidate but also of the extraordinary talent and strength and depth of expertise we have at The Evening Standard.”

Newly appointed commercial director, James White added: “I am very proud to be the new Commercial Director of the Evening Standard. The Standard is a genuinely iconic brand that offers best in class content across print, digital and events. We serve advertisers with a unique audience that offers scale and incredible ROI in London and internationally. I’m looking forward to working with the brilliant team here to ensure we continue to innovate, challenge and thrive in a dynamic media marketplace.”
