Sun in talks with ITV over FA Cup digital rights

A week after the launch of Sun+, News UK has started early talks with ITV in a bid to take over the last year of its contract to the digital rights of the FA Cup coverage.

With the launch of Sun+ placing The Sun’s online content behind a £2 per week paywall, the publisher has recently incentivised readers to pay the fee with football-related content, such as the launch of an online football show, which features Premier League coverage. News UK won the rights to Premier League coverage in January for a three year period.

Now it is looking to take this one step further, by entering into discussions with ITV in a bid to take over the broadcasters remaining contractual year to the digital rights of the FA Cup. News UK has the rights to FA Cup season for four years starting with the 2014/15 season, but a potential deal with ITV would allow the paper rights to the 2013/14 season.
