Newsworks is the award-winning trade body for the UK national news brand industry, our goal is to promote the industry via events, research and thought leadership. Our brand portfolio represents the nation and that’s what sets us apart!   

We are looking for a highly numerate graduate with a creative flair, who is equally comfortable working with numbers and words. The successful candidate must be interested in current affairs and popular culture – we are the news after all! They must be motivated and enthusiastic, willing to work independently but also as a member of the Newsworks team. We’re looking for a strategic thinker with good analytical skills, who is able to translate information into insights and evidence for news brands, which can be turned into compelling stories.

As a business we like to focus on positivity, diversity and creativity. This position reports directly to the Data Insight Manager. 

Main roles and responsibilities 

Data analysis and reporting

  • Analysing and interpreting industry data to form compelling stories about news brands and their readers from key sources (TGI, TouchPoints, PAMCo, Nielsen, comScore).
  • Synthesising multiple data sources including secondary research, financial performance and competitor analysis to provide market insights and data stories for research centre.
  • Working closely with the Data Insight Manager and Client Services team to plan, form and deliver high quality presentations for creative agencies, media agencies, clients, stakeholders and events.
  • Helping with ad-hoc enquiries from media agencies, publishers, stakeholders and clients.

Website management

  • Conducting monthly analysis via Google Analytics on the Newsworks site.
  • Maintaining the research and data content on Newsworks’ website, ensuring all content is up to date, relevant and accurate.
  • Taking ownership of the creative gallery and keeping it to a high standard with the latest advertising campaigns from print and digital news brands.


  • Monitoring key marketing and research websites and newsletters (WARC, Press Association, Campaign, MRS, various international trade bodies etc) for quantitative surveys and analysis, followed by writing up and circulating summaries or stories for Newsworks’ weekly newsletter.
  • Assisting the Data Insight Manager with Newsworks’ original research projects.


  • Attend industry events on behalf of Newsworks to network and promote news brands.
  • Help out and participate in Newsworks’ own events and training days.

The ideal candidate

  • Has a genuine interest in the news industry, current affairs and popular culture.
  • A highly motivated self-starter, who is curious and creative with a keen eye for detail.
  • Has good problem-solving skills and is able to take a structured hypothesis driven approach.
  • An analytical mind who can work comfortably with quantitative data and can find a story in numbers.
  • Confident writer with excellent written and spoken English - including the ability to write research pieces, blogs and articles and confidently deliver presentations.
  • Effective time management skills, with the ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure.
  • Adept at managing multiple priorities while delivering excellent results.
  • Digitally savvy with some understanding of the online space, website maintenance and content editing/uploading. 

Education and qualifications

  • Educated to degree level, ideally in a quantitative or research-based subject (psychology, business, economics etc)
  • Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint 

Salary: £22,000 per annum. Full training provided.
