Independent increases cover price

The Independent is set to increase its cover price to £1.40.

The Independent's 20p price rise, which will take effect from Monday 15 June, will see it match the price of the Guardian, which became the most expensive quality daily paper when its price rose to £1.40 in January. The new price is 40p higher than The Times at £1 and 20p higher than The Daily Telegraph at £1.20.

Both the Saturday and Sunday editions of the paper will also be subject to a 20p price rise, with Saturday's Independent rising to £1.80 and the Independent on Sunday increasing from £2 to £2.20.

The news comes just weeks after Evgeny Lebedev, chairman and owner of Independent Print Limited (IPL) announced a wave of editorial changes in order to "invigorate" the Independent and the i.
