Cricket World Cup cover wrap boosts The Times sales

The cover wrap of the England’s World Cup winning moment boosts print sales by seven per cent.

The wrap captured the moment New Zealand batsman Martin Guptill was run out during Sunday’s “super over” finale securing victory for England in what was “the greatest game in cricket history”.

The Times owner, News UK, reported that the souvenir edition is estimated to have led to an extra 24,000 sales, which is an increase of 7.1% week-on-week.

Editor John Witherow said: “Readers turn to newspapers in their droves at big moments and winning the Cricket World Cup is no exception.

“The Times has a long history of superb cricket coverage: our iconic wrap and Mike Atherton’s front page analysis on Monday gave cricket fans new and old all the insight they needed on that epic finale.”

The publication joined all national titles in celebrating the first World Cup win for the England men’s cricket team and complemented the wrap with a 16-page pullout. Check out our gallery of all the World Cup front pages.
