16 April 2013 - 8.30am to 2.30pm
The British Library, 96 Euston Road, London NW1

Shift 2013 is the first-ever Newsworks conference, created to highlight how newspapers are effective and influential platforms in the multiplatform age.

This free event will gather together admired speakers from many different disciplines – publishing, marketing, planning and buying. On the 16 April you will find out what’s coming next and also how to reach new heights of creativity and effectiveness in newspaper advertising. And if you want to find out what it’s really like to be a national newspaper editor in 2013, you’ll hear that too. Yes, they never sleep.

The agenda includes:

  • John Lloyd, the creator of the cult TV shows QI and Blackadder, on what news means in 2013
  • Tony Gallagher, editor of The Daily Telegraph, on 24 hours in the life of an editor
  • Paul Cheesbrough, News Corp’s chief technology officer, on designing products to meet emerging reader and commercial needs
  • Simon Fox, Trinity Mirror’s chief executive, on his first year in newspapers
  • Lord Rothermere, Daily Mail & General Trust chairman, on paywalls, mobile and monetising MailOnline
  • Twitter’s Bruce Daisley and The Guardian’s Joanna Geary on social conversation and newsbrands
  • A new study by The Media School at Bournemouth University and Work Research, presented by Justin Gibbons
  • Plus our panel, including Tesco, Aviva and Boots, debating Paper or Screen – who cares?
