ABC: 21% YoY digital uplift for national newsbrands in September

The official ABC figures for September 2017 show that the UK national newspaper market enjoyed a 21% year on year uplift across digital platforms, with just over 33 million browsers daily.

In the month that the Caribbean and US were hit by hurricanes, Uber lost its London license and the Duchess of Cambridge announced her pregnancy, UK newsbrands saw an extra 5.7 million browsers on average accessing digital content every day, compared with September 2016.

Metro recorded the largest growth of average daily and monthly traffic – up 106% and 98% respectively year on year. The title witnessed an additional 1.2 million unique browsers visiting its site compared to September 2016.

The Independent accumulated 111 million browsers over the course of the month – up 72% year on year. The title's average daily unique browsers reached just under 6 million, making for an increase of 80% annually.

The Sun’s average daily traffic reached, 5.2 million unique browsers a day – a 79% annual increase. The title’s total monthly traffic was up 82% on last year, with 83.6 million browsers over the course of the month.

The Evening Standard attracted 15.6 million unique browsers in September, accruing to 740,202 unique browsers daily on average – up 29% year on year.

The Mirror accumulated 81.5 million browsers during September, averaging at 4.9 million unique browsers a day.

MailOnline received an average of 14.2 million unique daily browsers daily, working out to 206.58 million browsers over the course of the month.

In print, overall circulations remained stable, down just 0.6% month on month. The London Evening Standard, the Guardian and Metro reported month on month increases of 4.1%, 0.9% and 2% respectively. The Daily Telegraph, The Times and Metro increased circulation by 2.4%, 1.5% and 9.8% respectively, compared to last month.
